Poverty is one of the most pressing problems our world faces today. According to the World Bank, around 8.5% of the world lives in extreme poverty. That’s nearly 700 million people struggling to live on less than $2.15 a day. Poverty is multidimensional, and those affected often experience deprivations in health, education, and living standards. The cycle of poverty is difficult to break. But there’s hope.
Around the world, you’re helping communities become self-sufficient. In 2024 alone, IRUSA implemented 78 projects across the world, supporting over 3,000,000 people. Take a look at this success story!
Ali is a father of 11 children and farms tomatoes, onions, lettuce, lemons, dates, and guava. Ali recalls his years as a teenager when his family raised livestock. “When I was a teenager we were pure nomads with more than 80 camels and 700 sheep and goats… There was no fear of hunger and displacement.”
Due to recurrent droughts in Somalia caused by climate change, Ali lost most of his livestock. He turned to farming but struggled due to lack of water access. Thanks to your donations, a drip irrigation system and shallow well were installed, and Ali received agricultural training. Now, he’s confident his yield will be higher than ever.
