Education: A Basic Human Right

Access to education is a basic human right. Unfortunately, for millions of children around the world, this isn’t the case. Two-thirds of children in low and middle-income countries leave primary school unable to read. For refugee children specifically, only half of them attend any primary school at all, and less than a quarter attend secondary school.

While there are a multitude of contributing reasons, poverty remains the biggest barrier. Political instability, conflict, violence, and even areas susceptible to natural disasters all have a major impact on a child’s access to education. And without quality education, children are less likely to have the resources to build sustainable livelihoods, further trapping them in the cycle of poverty.

Around the world, you’re helping children unlock their potential and pave the way for a brighter future. In 2024 alone, IRUSA implemented 37 projects across the world, supporting nearly 400,000 people. Take a look at this success story!

Hela’s Story, Afghanistan

Hela lives in Kandahar with her parents and eight siblings. Her father is self-employed as a driver and her mother tends to the home throughout the day. Her father always wished for his children to go to school, but poverty and lack of access to education made things difficult. All the children knew was war. Thanks to support from donors like you, Hela was able to enroll in her local school. Every day, she wakes up excited to attend her classes. She has a new hope for her future.
